Endorsement: Chris Christie for NJ-Gov!

I have decided to throw my support behind former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie in the 2009 New Jersey gubernatorial race.  He made his decision last week, filing papers with the state on January 9, 2009.

While Christie is a moderate Republican, he is the best hope to take back the governorship in bluer-than-blue New Jersey in 2009.  He has made a name for himself in New Jersey during his tenure as U.S. Attorney by using the office to go after corrupt politicians – both Republican and Democrat.

His web site is here.  However, it has not gone live yet.

Bobby Jindal enters the fray in Virginia

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will be lending his good name to Attorney General Bob McDonnell later this week:

Popular Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will visit Richmond on Wednesday to endorse Attorney General Bob McDonnell’s bid for governor, a McDonnell news release said.

[...]

He and McDonnell will hold a press conference Wednesday morning at the Jefferson Hotel, the news release said. It will be followed by a private fundraiser.

I’ll try to get video of the press conference as it becomes available.

Who knows how to promote small business?

According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses, it’s Jason Chaffetz:

“Jason Chaffetz is the proven pro-small business candidate in this race,” said Lisa Goeas, NFIB’s vice president, political. “A small business owner himself, Chaffetz is well-versed on the issues facing our members. In addition, his policy positions have indicated his support of many of NFIB’s priority issues including healthcare and tax reform, as well as opposing labor initiatives such as card check that would hamper an entrepreneur’s ability to run a business without union interference.”

If Sen. Obama is elected, Utah’s 3rd District needs a Congressman who knows that taxing most small business in a time of economic downturn is a horrible idea.

If Sen. McCain is elected, Utah’s 3rd District needs a Congressman who knows that burdensome regulations against “greed” go against the free market principles that made this country great.

You can help get Jason Chaffetz elected by donating to his campaign.

Andy Harris for Small Business

Andy Harris picked up two major endorsements today:

Maryland First Congressional Candidate Andy Harris picked up a major endorsement Tuesday morning in Salisbury. He is being backed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

NFIB officials say Harris understands the needs of small businesses. Harris says those small businesses are the foundation of the American economy.

Congratulations, Dr. Harris!  The combination of a Governor Martin O’Malley and a President Barack Obama would be a disaster for small business owners across the Eastern Shore.

Noted cult (of personality) leader Ron Paul weighs in…

In Alaska’s GOP House primary, Ron Paul has chosen to put friendship and incumbency ahead of his libertarian principles and endorse kleptocrat Rep. Don Young:

Paul, the 72-year-old congressman from Texas whose maverick presidential bid drew wide support in Alaska, sent out a letter to his supporters here urging them to vote for Young.

“Don and I have served together in Congress for many years, and I consider him a friend,” Paul wrote in the letter. “Don has been an outspoken voice against environmental extremists over the years and has strongly opposed the types of federal regulatory overreach advocated in the name of environmentalism.”

Don Young is rEVOLutionary?  Who knew?

In issuing this endorsement, Rep. Paul bypassed both small government conservative Sean Parnell and libertarian Republican state representative Gabrielle LeDoux.  But I can’t say that his refusal to endorse my candidate, Sean Parnell, bothers me, as I would be more likely to vote for the GOP candidate Ron Paul didn’t endorse.

Kratovil receives endorsement of pretend moderate Democrats

The Blue Dog Democrats (otherwise known as the biggest group of Democratic frauds in Congress) have thrown their support behind Andy Harris’s opponent in Maryland’s 1st District.

The people of Maryland’s Eastern Shore should know that in some cases, being a Blue Dog Democrat means voting with Nancy Pelosi 90% of the time.  That’s what they can expect if they vote for Frank Kratovil in November.

Palin goes to bat for Sean Parnell

Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska makes an appearance in a new campaign ad for Sean Parnell to give her endorsement.  This ad shows that there is a generational shift occurring in Alaska politics:

As a new generation of Republicans slowly take over state parties and Congressional delegations around the country, Palin and Parnell are perhaps the most public examples of what can turn into bloody internal conflicts. While other revolts have been quietly conducted, Palin knocked off her own party’s governor two years ago and has called for the state GOP chairman to step down.

Here is the ad:

Pete Olson picks up more business cred

Pete Olson received a major endorsement yesterday from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce agrees with Rep. Nick Lampson on energy policy and gave the Democratic congressman an award in April for being “an effective ally to the business community.”

Republican challenger Pete Olson is diametrically opposed to the business federation on what to do about the 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States.

But today the Washington-based coalition of millions of businesses will endorse Olson for election on Nov. 4 to the 22nd District U.S. House seat.

This endorsement should carry a lot of weight with businesses in the metro Houston district who may have been more inclined to support an incumbent in this election cycle.  It will also reassure all conservatives who are pro-immigration enforcement that Pete Olson is getting this endorsement in spite of his hard-line stance on immigration, not because of it.  (The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is pro-business, but also pro-amnesty.)

So congratulations to Pete Olson and his campaign for securing this major endorsement while staying true to a conservative position on immigration.

Ragnar Danneskjold endorses Sean Parnell

A co-blogger at one of my favorite blogs, The Jawa Report, has endorsed Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell in his primary fight against Rep. Don Young (links in the original):

Don Young is one of the worst congressmen in the U.S. House. His massive appetite for earmarks and pork projects, including the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere,” is legendary. He is one of only 13 Republicans to vote in favor of ending secret ballots in union elections. He has spent, to date, $1.2 million responding to ongoing federal corruption investigations related to his VECO and Coconut Road dealings.

[...]

Luckily for conservatives (and Republicans), Don Young is being challenged in the primary by Sean Parnell, a young reformer who has been endorsed by National Review, the Club for Growth and Alaska Right-to-Life, among many others.

The choice here, between a pork-o-rama 35-year incumbent under federal investigation and a young conservative reformer, should be pretty easy for anyone who understands that the GOP has serious problems and needs to change its big spending ways and get back to true conservative principles.

This election cycle presents an opportunity for Alaska Republicans to rid themselves of one of their most corrupt politicians. I join Ragnar Danneskjold at the Jawa Report in hoping Alaskans choose ethical governance over incumbency on August 26.

Alaska state legislators back Sean Parnell

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell has picked up four endorsements from the Alaskan interior, which includes Fairbanks, Alaska:

Republican Sens. Gene Therriault and Gary Wilken and Reps. John Coghill and Mike Kelly announced their support for Parnell in a press release put out by the Parnell campaign.

[...]

“I want a fairly conservative Republican in there,” Coghill said.

“Don has such bad ratings in my area. I don’t think he’s been paying attention to the people of Alaska,” Coghill said.

Coghill said he agrees with Young on the major issues, such as allowing energy development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, but disagrees with him on labor issues and other local challenges.

I’ll be the first to say that Rep. Don Young has many votes in his legislative history that would please conservatives.  But when he’s wrong, man is he ever wrong.  His ethical lapses and addiction to pork projects are one of the biggest reasons conservatives across the nation feel disenchanted with the GOP.  Hopefully Sean Parnell can bring honor back to Alaska’s At-Large House seat.

Mitt Romney Endorses Jason Chaffetz!

There’s word that Jason Chaffetz is about to receive a major endorsement from former governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mitt Romney:

On Thursday the Herald learned that Romney plans to endorse Chaffetz next week, joining Utah Sens. Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch, and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., who have already endorsed him.

Cannon, meanwhile, remains cool to his former rival. In a written statement Thursday, Cannon referred to “questions” about Chaffetz from residents of his district, and said he will seek a meeting with him during Congress’s summer recess, which has just begun.

This is excellent news for Jason Chaffetz.  I’d be interested to hear what kind of questions Rep. Cannon has, though.  I’m imagining something like, “Will you continue my fight for amnesty for illegal aliens?”  I don’t think he’d like the answer he’d get.

“Gov. Romney is interested in supporting candidates who will promote policies that will strengthen our families, our economy and our military,” said spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom. “He sees in Jason Chaffetz a dynamic young leader.”

If that is Gov. Romney’s criteria, then Jason Chaffetz is his man.

Alaska Right to Life endorses Parnell

Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who is challenging Rep. Don Young in Alaska’s August 26th House primary, picked up a major endorsement yesterday:

Republican congressional candidate Sean Parnell picked up the endorsement of the Alaska Right to Life Group Wednesday.

The group says Parnell has been a champion for issues of life, from conception to natural death.

Congressman Don Young’s campaign says Young remains a right to life supporter and says the endorsement of Parnell likely reflects Young’s vote in support of federal funding of embryonic stem cell research.

This endorsement speaks to Sean Parnell’s dedication to respecting innocent human life where Rep. Don Young won’t.  It also highlights Sean Parnell’s fiscal conservatism, as embryonic stem-cell research is already privately funded.

Will an unpopular governor help Andy Harris?

Andy Harris’ Democratic opponent in Maryland’s 1st District has received the endorsement of Gov. Martin O’Malley.  But will this endorsement help or hurt?

Harris exudes confidence in his contest for an open race in the 1st Congressional District. He’s taking on Democratic Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney Frank Kratovil, but Republicans at the fair say Harris has a big advantage because of Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley.

The governor attended Kratovil’s campaign announcement last year and is a key ally. But O’Malley’s approval ratings have slipped since he steered through $1.4 billion in new taxes that took effect this year. Although Kratovil isn’t disavowing the governor, he’s not exactly posing for pictures with him, either.

“Nobody likes the governor,” said Diane Carabetta of Perryville, a Republican activist who came to the fair to greet Harris, who won knocked off incumbent Rep. Wayne Gilchrest in February in a bruising GOP primary.

Allen West picks up another endorsement, eh!

This one comes from our neighbors to the north:

Lt. Col. Allen West is a great candidate.  He speaks with honesty and clarity as his innate sincerity and devotion to the nation pour through.  He’s that rare form of politician, an honest one.  And that sincerity attracts Republicans and Democrats alike to him, whether or not they share his conservative views.

[...]

Aside from being a powerhouse, West is one of those rarest of beings, an honest politician.  This is the reason he is so well liked by Democrats and Republicans alike who hear him speak.  He’s an honest conservative and even those who disagree with him admire his honesty as well as the fact that he sincerely wants to do well for the nation.

His record is one of immense service and dedication and he has widespread support among those who know him best, the troops who served under him.  I would have expected a more fair and accurate piece from someone with the intelligence and acumen of Ms. Fairbanks and hope that she will be more even handed in the future.

Mr. Postelnik is right.  Lt. Col. West’s honesty and likability are two very rare qualities in a candidate.  Thanks to Canada Free Press and Yomin Postelnik for such a glowing defense of Lt. Col. West.
